Sabalenka back on form but Gauff's grass court struggles continue

Aryna Sabalenka made a winning return to the tennis court as the world number one swept aside Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Berlin Open.

Sabalenka said she wanted “to quit tennis right now” after her shock French Open quarter-final loss two weeks ago against Diana Shnaider, but in her first match since then she won 6-4, 6-4 to progress in Germany.

But world number seven Coco Gauff saw her miserable run on grass continue as she lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Paula Badosa.

The American has now lost her last four matches on the surface, heading back to her run to the last 16 of Wimbledon in 2024.
