Texas softball legend Cat Osterman compares herself to Teagan Kavan
· Yahoo Sports
Cat Osterman and Teagan Kavan are two of the best softball pitchers in history. And they both are Texas Longhorns. Naturally, comparisons will be made. Osterman says she and Kavan might be the 'Jordan and LeBron' of women's softball.
We're now very familiar with Kavan. The junior went 4-1 in this year's Women's College World Series with two saves. She became the only player in history to be named Most Outstanding Player two years in a row. She also has the WCWS record for 31.2 scoreless innings. She's won eight games and has two saves in Oklahoma City.

Osterman's run at Texas was 20 years ago and she's credited with putting the Longhorns softball program on the map. The four-time All-American still holds the Big 12 triple crown of most career wins, lowest ERA and most strikeouts. She also still leads in as shutouts, no-hitters, WHIP, and perfect games. She also holds the NCAA record for strikeout ratio.
Osterman was a key figure in USA Softball. In 2004, she took a redshirt year at UT in order to compete in the Athens Olympics. She has two silver medals and a gold. It would be more, but the Olympics didn't stage women's softball for 12 years during her prime.

Osterman and Kavan will undoubtedly get compared. Osterman might have been better overall. But as she points out, Kavan has the skins on the wall.
"Well, I mean in basketball, don't we debate it all the time between Jordan and Lebron? So, I mean, there's different generations," Osterman said. "What I did when I played is completely different than what Teagan does when she plays. She's got two national championships. I have no rings to show. I have a lot of records and stats, but no rings to show. But at the same time doesn't diminish what I do and what I did doesn't diminish what she did."
Make not mistake, Osterman is a fan of the soon-to-be UT senior.
"I think she's be able to do great things for Texas softball," Osterman said. "She's put them more on the map than they already were and that's hard to do when you follow in the footsteps of, not must myself, but a lot of great pitching at Texas."
The Houston native is now the general manager of the Texas Volts in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. The team recently drafted Texas Tech star Nijaree Canady. She would love to be in position to draft Kavan next year.
"Hopefully, in a year we're talking about her being in purple," she said.
