Pauline Hanson finally made it to the National Press Club, where the nation’s journalists seized the chance to talk about the nation’s journalists. GetUp lowered a banner behind her mid-speech, Pauline’s supporters went into meltdown, and somehow the AFP was soon involved. A scandal? A debacle? A club matter? Take your pick.
But while the Press Club was in a lather, Gina Rinehart was up in Townsville, thanking Pauline and floating free land for Israeli defence manufacturing. Don’t worry about first-home buyers wanting land. Apparently the priority is weapons, domes and synergies.
Then there was Sky News, busy trying to tell its viewers the Gaza flotilla activists were Hamas-linked, as Penny Wong announced an AFP inquiry into allegations Australians were mistreated by Israeli forces in international waters.
And just when you thought the field was full, along came KPMG, warned in Parliament from the outset not to lie. Call us old-fashioned, but most people learned that one at about four years old.
