Sparks star Kelsey Plum out at least four weeks with lower leg injury

· Yahoo Sports

After missing out on the playoffs in her first season with the Los Angeles Sparks, Kelsey Plum seemed determined to singlehandedly carry the team to the postseason in 2026. Plum was out to a fantastic start to the season, averaging 23.9 points through 12 games in her second stint with the Sparks.

But her season came to a grinding halt Wednesday, as it was announced Plum would miss at least the next four weeks with a lower left leg injury.

The Sparks did not provide specifics on the injury. Plum missed time at the end of May with an ankle issue. That injury involved Plum’s right ankle, however, so this lower leg issue could be unrelated.

Plum was forced to miss three games at the end of May due to her ankle issue. She returned to action in early June and didn’t miss a beat, dropping 27 points in her first game back.

The ankle injury didn’t seem to alter Plum’s workload. In her first four games back, Plum played at least 32 minutes in each contest. That figure jumped to 36:56 during a 111-102 overtime win against the Phoenix Mercury on June 13.

She saw a slight reduction in playing time the following game — a loss to the Golden State Valkyries — before sitting out during the team’s next contest.

Plum returned to action against the New York Liberty on June 21, and played nearly 36 minutes in the win. She scored just 12 points in the win, her second-lowest output of the season.

Prior to Wednesday’s injury, Plum was in the midst of arguably her best season in the league. Her 23.9 points per game and 6.4 assists per game marked new career highs for the four-time All-Star.

Despite her efforts, the Sparks sit at just 8-8 through 16 games. The team was 7-5 in the 12 games played by Plum.

It’s unclear exactly when Plum will be able to return to the team. The Sparks said Wednesday that Plum will be re-evaluated in four weeks, a sign her injury will likely keep her out beyond that time period.
