What kit will South Africa wear for their historic match?
WHICH KIT WILL BAFANA BAFANA WEAR NEXT?
With South Africa officially making it to the next round in the FIFA World Cup, football fans will be wearing green and yellow on Sunday in support of Bafana Bafana.
While FIFA has not yet released their matchday kits, it is believed that they will continue wearing their home kit – yellow shirt, green shorts and yellow socks.
According to fixtures, South Africa is the home side (Team A) and Canada the away side (Team B). This means that South Africa will be given preference in choosing their home kit.
Bafana Bafana will likely wear their home kit against Canada on Sunday, 28 June. To date, South Africa hs only worn its yellow kit at the FIFA World Cup. Image via X.As Canada’s home kit is red, FIFA would likely assess if there is any significant contrast or clash.
If the colours are found too similar in certain lighting, for television, or for colour-blind viewers, Canada could be instructed to wear an alternative kit, their black, grey and red kit.
Thus far, Bafana have played all three of their FIFA World Cup group-stage matches in their home kit.
COLOUR CLASH POLICY
In accordance with FIFA regulations, countries are required to submit two playing kits for approval: one light and one dark.
FIFA has said: “In principle, each team shall wear its official team kit as declared on the team colour form.
“If the two teams’ colours might cause confusion, the host team shall be entitled to wear its official team kit and the visiting team shall use its reserve team kit or, if necessary, a combination of the official and the reserve team kits.”
This means that the designated home team – Team A, in this case Bafana Bafana – generally keeps its preferred kit. If colours clash against their opponent’s kit, Canada would be required to switch to an alternate kit or a different combination of their shirt, shorts and socks.
FIFA has stated that kit colours remain subject to change until the match coordination meeting, which is held the day before each game.
