Over the weekend, WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark, who is inarguably the most popular and influential player the league has ever seen, was left off of the league’s commemorative 30th anniversary poster, sparking outrage amongst sports fans.

Now, one high-profile analyst is going as far as to suggest that Clark should leave the league and seek opportunities elsewhere.

Clark Left Off 30th Anniversary Poster

On Wednesday morning, the WNBA shared an image of a new poster commemorating the 30th anniversary of the league. The poster featured a star player from each team throughout the league, including players like Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese, and A’Ja Davis.

“Bring a piece of WNBA history home,” the WNBA wrote in a post on X. “Celebrate 30 years of the W with this commemorative anniversary poster.”

There was one rather significant problem with the poster, however: Clark was not on it.

Instead of Clark, who is undeniably the biggest star on the Fever roster, the poster included Sophie Cunningham representing Indiana.

Needless to say, this quickly sparked backlash from fans and media across social media.

Should Clark Leave WNBA?

After Clark’s omission from the poster, former NFL star and longtime sports analyst Boomer Esiason boldly suggested that the Indiana Fever superstar should consider leaving the WNBA and exploring other leagues overseas where she can get “real money.”

“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would seriously consider going to play overseas somewhere and get the royal treatment and get real money,” Esiason said of Clark.

Esiason noted that many WNBA players do play in overseas leagues during the offseason to supplement their income. However, that practice could be changing after the significant pay raise the players received as part of the new collective bargaining agreement.

Clark, as Esiason points out, makes plenty of money from endorsements. However, he does not think that the league treats her with the respect she deserves.

“I know that Caitlin makes a ton of money off the court in terms of endorsements, and rightfully so. But I think there’s a petty jealousy,” Esiason said. “She’s a straight white basketball player. And she is not being treated with any sort of respect whatsoever.”

It’s worth noting that Clark has never expressed any desire to leave the WNBA, nor has she ever brought up any issue with feeling disrespected by the league.
