Who Serena is playing

Australian Maya Joint is Serena’s first round opponent. Joint, 20, has been as high as World No. 28 but injuries have set her back to World No. 53 with a 3-14 record in 2026.

2025 was her first year competing at Wimbledon, and she lost in the first round.

Serena’s projected second round opponent could be Filipina Alexandra Eala. Eala has enjoyed breakout wins against Top 10 and Grand Slam champions at last year’s Miami Open and last week’s Berlin Open.

Eala has an enthusiastic and massive fanbase being the only player from the Philippines to ever succeed at this level on the WTA Tour. Against Serena, will she be in the unfamiliar role of having the least fan support in a match?

Should she advance to the third round, Serena could face Iga Swiatek, the defending Wimbledon champion.

We know that these projected match discussions are meaningless because there are always upsets so we tend not to engage in these discussions, but the intriguing mix of youth, superstardom, and Grand Slam champion opponents that Serena could face will make watching this year’s Wimbledon exciting.

Serena will also team with her sister Venus for women’s doubles. That draw has yet to be released.
