Palace City Post 18 moves to five wins in a row with home sweep of Hawks

Jun. 27—MITCHELL — Palace City Post 18 took care of business with a home sweep on Saturday afternoon against Letcher Post 93 at Drake Field in American Legion baseball action.

Post 18 won games of 11-1 (six innings) and 12-2 (five innings), moving Palace City's win streak to five games, improving to 15-11 overall this season.

Palace City's Noah Bennett was on top of his game in the opener, recording 12 strikeouts against 18 batters without a walk, yielding two hits in five scoreless innings. Dawson Adams pitched the sixth inning and allowed a run but had two strikeouts.

For Post 18, Canon Moller and Avery Kaus both had two hits and two RBIs, and Quinton Wilson and Carter McCormick each joined in with two hits apiece. Wilson scored two runs, Nolan Widstrom had two stolen bases and Kaiden Allen was hit by a pitch three times at the plate.

Jayden Digmann was charged with the loss for the visiting Hawks, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in five innings. Bryce Larson had a double and an RBI, while Oscar Anderson tallied two hits for the Hawks.

In Game 2, Letcher got on the board with the first two runs of the game, only for Palace City to control the rest of the game, including four runs in the first inning and five more in the fourth.

Widstrom threw 76 pitches in five innings and allowed two unearned runs with one walk and nine strikeouts. Ethan Hegg had three RBIs and Bennett had two hits and scored twice, while Tyler Christensen also added two runs scored. Carter McCormick had two stolen bases and scored three times as a courtesy runner.

For the Hawks (1-8), Bryce Larson and McCoy Schulz had RBIs. Parker Ettswold took the loss on the mound, allowing four hits and five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Palace City will play at Pierre at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at Hyde Stadium, before returning home to host Sioux Falls Post 15 West on Wednesday, July 1 at Cadwell Park.
