To date, over 6 000 South Africans, predominantly white Afrikaners,  have taken up refugee status under the resettlement programme, since its inception last May.

The US State Department recently announced an increase in the intake of applicants, from 7 500, to an additional 10 000, in the current fiscal year.

SA REFUGEES TO RECEIVE GIFTS FROM THE US

According to The New York Times, the US plans to introduce welcome packs for South African refugees arriving in the coming weeks.

The packages will contain an Android tablet, an American flag and copies of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The publication claims it will also include literature on the history of both the US and the SA. This will reportedly include propaganda documents that downplay the civil rights movement, question racial equality, and criticise transformation laws.

The package is believed to be commissioned by US President Donald Trump, whose executive order paved the way for the refugee resettlement programme to white South Africans he believes are “victims of racial persecution”.
