Prince Harry is currently in the U.K. to mark the one-year countdown to his Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham.
Similar to the flip-flopping of the Duke of Sussex’s Buckingham Palace accommodations , it was initially believed that wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would be accompanying Harry to his events — but that did not happen.
It was originally supposed to be a family trip but Harry arrived solo in the Britain earlier in the week due to security concerns after police denied them publicly funded protection during the visit.
However, according to the Telegraph , there was a change of heart and Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, are indeed joining Harry — however, neither the former Suits star nor the kids would be attending any events.
The Sussexes previous visit to the U.K.
It will mark the entire family’s first visit to England in four years.
The Duke of Sussex has made many trips to the U.K. for charity work and court cases since he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Meghan, on the other hand, has only made one return to England since they moved to California — in 2022, when she and Harry extended a trip to Europe to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
The ex- Deal or No Deal suitcase holder later admitted how tough it was being away from her children at the time, when Archie was three years old and Lilibet was 15 months old.
What Harry has said about his family
Harry has made references this week to his family during his public engagements.
He told a 12-year-old patient at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Thursday that Archie is “obsessed with Lego” and called him a “master builder,” per Hello! magazine .
And on Friday, Harry made a surprise appearance on This Morning where host Alison Hammond asked if his family is “proud” of the work he does for for wounded veterans through the Invictus Games.
“They don’t tell me every day that they’re proud of me, but yeah, I’m proud of them, they’re proud of me,” he said, according to Manchester Evening news , adding, “I love my family.”
Following the Buckingham debacle, the Duke — and presumably, the Duchess, the prince and princess — having been staying in private accommodation, according to the Telegraph .
Will the Sussexes meet with the King?
With all four Sussex family members in the U.K., it has raised the prospect of them meeting with King Charles.
If it goes ahead, it will be a private reunion, the Telegraph reported.
Harry’s return began on a sour note, overshadowed not only by his dispute over security and royal accommodation but also his legal defeat in his privacy case against Associated Newspapers.
That said, the show has gone on, with Harry’s schedule packed with charitable work and promoting the Invictus Games.
After losing his legal appeal over his security in Britain, Prince Harry told the BBC in May 2025 that he couldn’t “see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point.”
He explained: “The things that they’re going to miss is, well, everything. I miss the U.K., I miss parts of the U.K., of course I do. I think that it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
The couple’s Toronto debut
But the pull of the upcoming Invictus Games may have been too hard to resist, especially given how the games have played a role in the couple’s relationship.
Harry and Meghan made their debut as a couple at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, where she lived while filming Suits .
The two attended the opening ceremony and held hands during their first joint public appearance to watch the wheelchair tennis event.
“The Toronto games were our first time out and about publicly in an official way. We were dating at the time, so it was a lot to take in, but fortunately, we were with the perfect community for that,” Harry told PEOPLE in 2022.
“I had always wanted to share these incredible moments with someone special, and to have Meg by my side means everything.”
