The sanctioning body announced Friday that a public Celebration of Life honoring the two-time Cup Series champion will take place Friday, Oct. 9, at Charlotte Motor Speedway following the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. The event will be free to attend, with NASCAR saying additional information about speakers and ceremony details will be released in the coming weeks.

Rather than holding a private memorial, NASCAR is opening the event to the public, allowing thousands of fans to gather during one of the sport’s biggest race weekends to honor one of its most accomplished modern champions.

Charlotte has become NASCAR’s gathering place

Charlotte Motor Speedway has long served as the heart of the NASCAR industry.

Located just outside the city where many race teams, manufacturers and NASCAR itself are headquartered, the facility has become the site of many of the sport’s biggest celebrations and tributes over the years.

That made Charlotte a fitting choice for Busch’s public Celebration of Life.

The ceremony will take place after the Craftsman Truck Series race on Oct. 9 during NASCAR’s fall weekend at the speedway, giving competitors, crew members and fans the opportunity to honor Busch together in one place.

NASCAR also confirmed the event will be free to attend.

Busch’s legacy continues to be felt throughout NASCAR

Even months after Busch’s death, NASCAR continues finding new ways to celebrate his impact on the sport.

Race weekends have featured tributes, commemorative displays and moments of remembrance as drivers and teams continue honoring one of the defining competitors of his generation.

Busch retired with one of the most accomplished résumés in NASCAR history.

He captured Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019, won the 2004 Rookie of the Year award and finished his career with 63 Cup Series victories. He also became one of the winningest drivers ever across NASCAR’s three national series while helping develop young talent through Kyle Busch Motorsports.

The upcoming Celebration of Life represents NASCAR’s largest public tribute yet.

While many details remain to be announced, the Oct. 9 gathering will give the broader NASCAR community an opportunity to come together and celebrate Busch’s life, career and lasting influence on stock car racing.
