Mahomes knows the stadium as well as anyone due to his NFL career, so no one was surprised to see him in the stands.

And he was blessed with an entertaining game, as Lionel Messi’s Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 after extra time.

Messi is the joint-top goalscorer at the 2026 World Cup (eight goals), but he had a relatively quiet game, with one assist and no goals.

Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez, and Lautaro Martinez stepped up instead, as Argentina reached the semi-finals.

Mahomes supported the defending champions on Saturday night, but will he be rooting for them to go all the way?

Patrick Mahomes watched Argentina’s World Cup match vs Switzerland

Argentina’s quarter-final match against Switzerland was the last game of the 2026 World Cup at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.

Therefore, in addition to watching Lionel Messi and Argentina live, Mahomes had another reason not to miss the game.

The Chiefs QB made it abundantly clear which team he was supporting by wearing an Argentina jersey in the stands.

Mahomes’ Argentina jersey was a collaboration between Adidas (one of his primary sponsors), Argentina, and Thrasher.

He attended the game with his wife, Brittany, although fans were surprised to see him sitting in the row behind.

Perhaps there was a mistake in the seating plan, or Mahomes wanted to focus solely on the Argentina game.

With just four matches remaining at the 2026 World Cup, this was likely the last game Mahomes will attend.

However, just like millions in the United States and around the world, he will surely tune in for the semi-finals and final.
