Earlier today, it came to light that it was a call from Jose Mourinho that changed the course of Real Madrid’s negotiations with Vinicius Jr. over a contract renewal.
The Brazilian star, after all, has been at a standstill with the club in terms of negotiations with both parties refusing to compromise on economic terms.
In recent days, however, there has been a growing sense of optimism that the player will stay at the club, although Los Blancos have been very clear that they will not throw the kitchen sink to ensure he stays.
The conversation that changed it all
As reported by Miguel Serrano in his detailed update, Mourinho told Vinicius Jr. in their conversation that it is time for the player to turn the page on the FIFA World Cup chapter.

The manager expressed his understanding of the pain the player felt at Brazil’s elimination and pacified him by stressing that he was the only player who performed at a level worthy of Brazil’s crest.
Mourinho also told the player that there was no need to feel guilty at what had transpired and that he was not to blame irrespective of the outcome.
The Portuguese coach then spoke to the talisman on how the chapter that awaited him at Real Madrid was a wonderful and exciting one, urging him to stay at the club. The call ended with both parties convinced and happy.

The same update relays that Real Madrid and Vinicius’ agents feel optimistic after recent conversations and a step has been taken in the right direction.

Real Madrid believe the player wants to stay and his agent and a close confidante reassured the club of the same.
Florentino Perez, for his part, believes that Vinicius needs to be renewed for the betterment of the club and that an extension is required to keep him at the club, not only to protect the club from his departure as a free agent.
As matters stand, the internal feeling is thus that the player will renew once he returns from his vacation. There is optimism despite the recent social media saga on the player’s Instagram account.
