A look back at the 1960 season for the Cardinals

The 1960 season was the Cardinals' first year in St. Louis after moving from Chicago. They opened the St Louis era with a 6-5-1 season.

In the 13-team league, they were fourth in scoring, averaging 24.0 points per game, and allowed 19.2, which was fourth.

In terms of yardage, they were second in the league on offense and had the No. 1 defense.

1960 individual honors and leaders

The Cardinals had five Pro Bowlers in 1960.

  • S Jerry Norton
  • WR Sonny Randle
  • RB John David Crow
  • CB Jimmy Hill
  • DE Leo Sugar

Randle and Norton were first-team All-Pros, while Crow made the second team.

Norton led the NFL with 10 interceptions, and he led the NFL in punting average, booting it 45.6 yards per punt.

John Roach started 10 of the 12 games at quarterback. He passed for 1,423 yards, 17 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Crow led the NFL in yards from scrimmage (1,533) and rushing average (5.9 yards per attempt. He rushed for 1,071 yards and six touchdowns, and had 25 receptions for 462 yards and three scores.

Randle had 62 catches for 893 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns. He led the league in total touchdowns.
