“So he’s in the room, he’s able to make his own decisions, but I’m sure he’s going to go with a team where he has a great chance of winning because he realizes that he’s near the end. One, two, maybe three more years, so, he’s probably going to want to play for a contender,” Shaq added.
The Los Angeles Lakers Release A Statement About LeBron James’ Departure From The California-Based Team
MEGAJames announced his exit from the team at the end of June 2026, according to a previous report from The Blast. The Lakers released a statement after his announcement, thanking the elite athlete publicly for his contributions to the team.
“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers — including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold,” Lakers governor Jeanie Buss said. “We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”
James also thanked the team and its fans for showing him much love throughout his eight years with them. “Truly a [sic] honor to wear the [purple and gold] while trying to continue the greatness [and] legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint,” he added.
This Rapper Believes He Knows Where LeBron James Will End Up
MEGAWhile Shaq said he couldn’t tell James where to sign, rapper Rick Ross spoke with TMZ and was more than happy to share his thoughts on where the father of three should end up.
“I’m talking from a boss’s perspective,” Ross said. “The boss move is for LeBron to come to Miami where the most billionaires are at, because of his brand. You got to feed the other 30 businesses that Bron has created.”
Ross even showed love to Cleveland, the team that first signed James in 2003. However, he said it’s nothing compared to Miami.
“This is about business, guys,” he said. “I know you guys who are still fascinated, who want to see him jump from the free throw line and dunk. No, I want to see him make some of the biggest empires and put his logos on some of those new big buildings downtown in Miami. And do more business with the billionaires that’s down there.”
An NFL Player Also Chimed In On James’ Decision
MEGASuper Bowl champion Saquon Barkley also chimed in on the conversation. He spoke with the media in early July 2026 and said James should choose to play in Philly if he’s serious about winning.
“If you want to go out with a bang, I feel like a great spot would be in Philly and bring a championship to Philadelphia,” Barkley, a Philadelphia Eagles icon, said, per The Blast. “You’ll be remembered forever.”
“[The fans are] crazy, but in a different way,” he added. “When you’re on the Giants’ side, oh these motherf—ers are insane. On this side, you see they just love it.”
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Wants James To Announce His Decision Already
MEGAIn addition to the aforementioned names, NBA commissioner Adam Silver is also ready for James to make his decision, telling CNBC that where James plays impacts more than just himself.
“Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule,” Silver said. “So I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule, because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc. So I need him to make a decision.”
