The wait is finally over: Gabe Jacas has signed his rookie contract with the New England Patriots

According to a report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots and the second-round draft choice have reached an agreement on a four-year, $8.6million contract. Jacas was one of two players selected in this year’s draft who were left unsigned, the other being Rams quarterback Ty Simpson.
Coming off a four-year career at Illinois, Jacas was picked 55th overall by the Patriots in this year’s draft. Unlike the other eight players selected by the club, however, his signing progress dragged on throughout the offseason program and into the early stages of training camp: the 22-year-old did not report to camp earlier this week, and was absent from the first practice of the summer on Saturday.
However, head coach Mike Vrabel expressed optimism during a press conference on Friday.
“Every contract is unique. Every contract is different. But it will get resolved, I’m positive that it will,” Vrabel said. “I’d use the word cautiously optimistic. Those conversations have been great, and excited to see where he’s at.”
How quickly Jacas will enter the mix remains to be seen, but the Patriots would benefit from getting him up to speed quickly. Fellow edge Harold Landry, after all, remains on the physically unable to perform list and therefore out of practice.
The Patriots will open their 2026 training camp with four straight days of practice, starting Saturday.
