German sprinter Ansah picked for Euros despite doping rules probe

Top sprinter Owen Ansah has been nominated into the German team for next month's European athletics championships despite an ongoing investigation on a refused doping test.
The national 100 metres record holder Ansah is part of an 81-strong German team the governing body DLV named on Wednesday for the August 10-16 Euros in Birmingham.

Ansah won the national 100m and 200m titles last weekend amid a probe by the German Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) "regarding a possible Anti-Doping Rule Violation (refusing sample collection)" earlier this month.
The NADA said that Ansah is not suspended and can compete.
It remains to be seen whether he will also be part of the 4x100m relay team in Birmingham as originally planned.
If he is found guilty of a doping rules violation he would be disqualified from all events since the test incident and the whole team would be disqualified and lose possible medals.
Ansah said in a DLV statement he was about to travel to the Golden League meet in Monaco on July 9 when the drug tester arrived outside of the testing time frame he had given. He said he was running very late and couldn’t provide a sample at such short notice, having also just been to the toilet.
Ansah said he was tested by the World Anti-Doping Agency the next day, competition day July 10, in Monaco, and again on Monday by NADA.
The German team for Birmingham is led by Olympic and defending long jump champion Malaika Mihambo and past steeplechase champion Gesa Krause as well as marathon title holder Richard Ringer and new European steeplechase record holder Frederik Ruppert.
