Nick Sirianni explains how Eagles will evaluate Jalen Hurts in 2026

Jalen Hurts will again "keep the main thing, the main thing" as he learns another offensive system. Still, the Philadelphia Eagles are not changing the standard used to evaluate their franchise quarterback in a critical season that could impact his contract.
Hurts entered his seventh NFL training camp Wednesday with Sean Mannion serving as his latest offensive coordinator. Nick Sirianni was asked whether Hurts’ experience changes how Philadelphia evaluates him compared with previous seasons involving coordinator transitions.

“No,” Sirianni said. “We’re very proud that we make the job description very clear for each and every one of our players and that we have a standard of what we do at each position.”
Mannion replaced Kevin Patullo after Philadelphia’s offense lacked consistency during the 2025 season. Although the terminology, formations and specific responsibilities may change, Sirianni said the broader expectations for the star quarterback remain intact.
“Obviously, there’ll be different requirements and slightly different job descriptions, but the standard remains the standard, and we’ll continue to grade upon that,” Sirianni said.
Hurts’ responsibilities extend beyond simple X's and O's. Philadelphia will evaluate his accuracy, decision-making, ball security, command at the line of scrimmage and ability to operate the offense efficiently. His experience should help him navigate the transition. Hurts has played under multiple coordinators and spent the offseason working with Mannion’s system while organizing throwing sessions with teammates in Orlando, Florida.
Those workouts included quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends who will help shape the offense. Hurts said the work brought the group closer and provided noticeable benefits as they entered camp. GM Howie Roseman and Sirianni expect Mannion to tailor parts of the offense to Hurts’ strengths. Sirianni made clear that adaptation will not become an excuse for uneven execution.
The job description may contain different details. The Eagles’ standard for their quarterback will not change.
