J.J. McCarthy has failed to make the quarterback spot his own since being drafted by the Vikings back in 2024.
As a result, Kyler Murray has been brought in this offseason to battle the youngster for the spot ahead of the new season getting underway.
Footage has emerged from training camp showing some of the highs and lows from the ongoing battle between McCarthy and Murray at the Vikings’ training facility.
Given it will be Jefferson who the next QB1 in Minnesota will be looking to target, the 27-year-old wide receiver has now shared his thoughts on the battle in camp.

Jefferson ended the 2025 season with just two touchdowns to his name after a huge regression from the Vikings.
Losing Sam Darnold proved a huge miss for the likes of Jefferson, who will be keen to see the most reliable quarterback come out on top in the battle at camp.
“I hope it [competition] betters them. I hope it definitely betters J.J. because he’s a younger guy, a younger quarterback in this league,” Jefferson told the media.
“To be coming off of last year with a difficult year and improving every single day as he is, it’s definitely great to see him come out here with that mentality every single day.”
Jefferson is now heading into his seventh season in the NFL and head coach Kevin O’Connell will be looking to confide in his experience over the tough decision that needs to be made.
When asked whether he will have any input on the final call over who becomes QB1, Jefferson replied:
“I feel like he’s going to ask me along the way, but I don’t know – it’s a difficult question.
“It’s just all about who comes out here and makes the plays, who’s going to be that vocal leader, that person we can depend on throughout the difficult parts of the season, and who is consistent. So whoever that guy is, that’s who we’re rocking with.”
Some Vikings fans are demanding the team trades for Baker Mayfield following his failed contract talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Both quarterbacks have entered the offseason with a point to prove following their respective poor seasons.
Murray is further along in his career than McCarthy, but the youngster has yet to show the best version of himself in the league.
An intriguing situation is developing in Minnesota.
