Dodgers Offense Fails Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Red Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their second straight game to the Boston Red Sox, ending their four-game series win streak.

The Red Sox are coming off the best month of baseball ever in July, rising from one of the biggest disappointments of the season to a contender.

Thus far, Boston has gone toe-to-toe with LA and come out on top, beating the Dodgers at home in a playoff-like atmosphere.

The game was a true pitcher’s duel, with Peyton Tolle and Yoshinobu Yamamoto keeping their teams in the game with limited offense.

Yamamoto loses the duel vs. Tolle

Yamamoto had a great night on the mound, all things considered, pitching eight innings for the Dodgers and giving the bullpen needed rest.

However, he did allow three runs, which was not enough for the Dodgers to win, given the offense could only generate two runs.

Yamamoto allowed four hits, totaling just 96 pitches, but the damage came from the long ball, allowing two home runs.

His stuff was not great in terms of swing-and-miss — just three strikeouts on the night — but it generated mostly manageable soft contact.

Tolle, meanwhile, allowed nine hits and two walks, but he coughed up just two runs in the end.

Wasted scoring chances

On the day, with runners in scoring position, the Dodgers went 0-for-4 and left seven runners on base. The only RBI came on Teoscar Hernandez’s two-run homer.

Hernandez had a great game, going 3-for-4 from the plate. Additionally, Freddie Freeman did a great job of getting on base with his three hits.

Other than them, there wasn’t much impactful offense. They had just two walks on the night, but nine strikeouts, including Max Muncy’s three punchouts.

The Dodgers tend to succeed at timely hits, but today, against a good team, LA did not convert. Looking forward to October, they will need to produce in these moments.

The Dodgers play the final game of the series to avoid a sweep on Sunday with Emmet Sheehan starting the game at 4:20 p.m. PST.
