Company suing Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes over steakhouse name fire back at motion to dismiss

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are facing pushback in a federal lawsuit over the name of the Kansas City Chiefs stars’ restaurant.
The tight end, 36, and 30-year-old quarterback — who are pals as well as Super Bowl-winning teammates — are being challenged by 1587 Sneakers as they move to dismiss the shoe company’s New York City lawsuit, which alleges the name, 1587 Prime Steakhouse, amounts to trademark infringement, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

1587 Sneakers says the star players are trying to appear as “two distant celebrities that are mere promotional ‘pretty faces’ of the alleged infringing enterprise with no New York ties.”
Neither a representative for Mahomes nor a law firm believed to represent Kelce immediately responded to The News’ request for comment.
Kelce and Mahomes say the name for 1587 Prime — which bills itself as having been “co-founded by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in partnership with Noble 33 — comes from combining their jersey numbers, and they lack any direct interest in the LLC behind the restaurant.
1587 Sneakers’ name, meanwhile, commemorates the year Filipino sailors arrived in the modern-day U.S., which the website says was the first recorded presence of Asians in America.
Kelce and Mahomes also say they don’t have the authority to exert control over the Kansas City eatery, and lack ties to New York City.
It’s unclear how that squares with the blowout wedding Kelce and Swift, also 36, hosted last month at Madison Square Garden.
News of Kelce and Mahomes pushing back against the filing broke last month, just after the star-studded wedding — attended by an estimated 1,000-plus guests. At the time, 1587 Sneakers reasoned that the football stars often take part in national advertising campaigns, making New York a fitting place to file.
1587 Prime was announced in early 2024 and opened in September 2025, with the then-newly engaged Kelce and Swift celebrating together. The Grammy-winning singer even scored a signature drink in “The Alchemy,” in a nod to her 2024 track of the same name, widely understood to be about Kelce.
