Businessman Umar Rajput, 33, had handed gold ornaments, a laptop, an iPhone, clothes and chocolates to Mahjabeen Imran in Dubai for delivery to his wife at Mumbai International Airport on June 30. Police said Rajput had known Imran for seven years.

His wife waited for two hours, but Imran did not arrive. Police later learnt she had fled to Kuwait, where her sister lives. A bag containing clothes and chocolates was recovered from the airport’s lost-and-found centre, while the valuables remained missing. An FIR was registered on July 20. Further investigation is underway.
