Over the past few weeks, something has been rapidly taking over the tennis world: “Ealamania.” Alexandra Eala has become one of the most fan-favorite draws, as just days ago, the 21-year-old captured her first WTA 500-level title at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open, defeating top-tier pros including Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula along the way and reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 20.
But while Eala keeps making headlines, another standout from her training base at the Rafa Nadal Academy has just announced her arrival on the big stage at the Canadian Open in Toronto.

Rafa Nadal Academy’s Alina Korneeva Delivers Biggest Win of Her Career in Toronto as Alexandra Eala’s Rise Inspires
19-year-old Alina Korneeva delivered her best career performance so far at the National Bank Open, pulling off a 6-3, 6-4 straight-sets victory against World No. 16 Iva Jovic.
In one afternoon, the Russian teenager set multiple milestones. She secured her first win against a Top-20 player and booked her spot in the Round of 16 at a WTA 1000 event for the first time. On Wednesday, the qualifier had upset the No. 23 seed, Emma Navarro
6-2, 6-2.
The Rafa Nadal Academy, founded by tennis legend Rafael Nadal, took a moment to celebrate an incredible milestone of its own: having seven of its students officially ranked inside the ATP and WTA Top 100. The players are Casper Ruud, Eala, Jaume Munar, Martín Landaluce, Solana Sierra, Korneeva, and Coleman Wong.
However, Korneeva’s breakthrough comes as no surprise. She is a two-time girls’ Grand Slam champion, famously capturing back-to-back major titles in 2023 at the Australian Open and the French Open. At the Australian Open, the final win was against her close friend and fellow Russian prodigy, Mirra Andreeva.
While Andreeva quickly shot up the pro rankings, Korneeva’s progress was temporarily derailed due to injuries. Following a sensational 2023 season, she was forced off the tour in early 2024 due to a wrist tendon injury that required surgery, sidelining her for over seven months.

It was followed by an adductor issue in 2025. Despite the setbacks, the teenager rebuilt her confidence on the ITF and Challenger circuits. Last October, she captured the ITF W75 title in Bratislava, her third trophy of the season, following victories in Évora and Leiria in Portugal. Then, in February 2026, she captured the title at the Women’s Indoor Oeiras Open, a WTA 125 event, again in Portugal.
Now, Korneeva will have little time to rest on her laurels as she heads into the Round of 16 in Toronto, where she will face two-time Grand Slam champion and World No. 4 Coco Gauff.
