Ashton Bethel-Roman praises new Texas A&M offense under Holmon Wiggins

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's third preseason practice and first full practice available to the media took place on Saturday afternoon, and junior wide receiver Terry Bussey stood out after reeling in several one-handed grabs while running crisp routes. The former five-star prospect is finally living up to his potential in practice, at least.

Among Texas A&M's top-tier wide receiver rotation, redshirt sophomore Ashton Bethel-Roman broke out during his second season, recording 24 receptions for 503 yards and five touchdowns, averaging an impressive 21 yards per reception. One of the fastest players on the roster, Bethel-Roman was in the same spot as Terry Bussey this time last year, quickly becoming one of starting quarterback Marcel Reed's top targets.

However, this would also be offensive coordinator Collin Klein's final season, as third-year coach Mike Elko elevated wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins as the new OC, who, despite not having any experience as a play-caller, is well respected among the coaching staff and did serve as Klein's Co-OC during the last two seasons.

After Saturday's practice, Ashton Bethel-Roman spoke to the local media in attendance, discussing the wide receivers who have stood out aside from Terry Bussey, the Aggies' loaded secondary, and what to expect from Holmon Wiggins' offense. For the Missouri City (TX) native, Wiggins' offense feels very familiar.

"It feel like I have been in this offense for years" Bethel-Roman stated. "Yeah, don't get me wrong, he isn't insanely different from coach (Collin) Klein, but his version of the offense is very easy to learn. It's very good."

This isn't Bethel-Roman's first endorsement of Wiggins' scheme, as he feels that, given his background as a wide receivers coach, each receiver's unique skillset will be utilized within a rotation that will provide Marcel Reed an elite combination of speed, size, and separation.
