Newcastle’s Lewis Hall Reportedly Makes Transfer Decision Amid Man Utd Interest

Newcastle United’s determination to keep Lewis Hall could face its biggest test yet, with the left-back reportedly still intent on joining Manchester United despite the arrival of Matthias Jaissle.
Man Utd’s interest has developed over several weeks, with Newcastle already rejecting an enquiry and maintaining publicly and privately that Hall is not for sale, per Sky Sports’ Keith Downie. Reports have also indicated that the Old Trafford club is preparing a significant offer worth £60 million for the 21-year-old.

On Wednesday, The Sun reported that Hall himself wants the transfer to happen — in a much very reminiscing of Bruno’s as he forced his way to Arsenal — and that Jaissle replacing Eddie Howe has not altered his position.
“Hall wants to make the move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window,” The Sun reported. “The 21-year-old’s wish to leave Newcastle has not changed despite the arrival of new boss Matthias Jaissle, who replaced Eddie Howe after his shock exit last month.”
Manchester United, however, is considering alternatives, including Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly, in case Hall proves impossible to sign this summer, although the Magpies left-back has positioned himself as the Red Devils’ preferred solution at left-back.
“Man Utd have identified Hall as the ideal long-term replacement for Luke Shaw,” The Sun reported, adding that United has “belatedly accelerated their interest” in the England international of late.
Newcastle, however, has little interest to sanction yet another major departure after already losing Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer.
“Well-placed sources say the Magpies have taken measures to dampen talk of the England international joining the Red Devils,” The Sun reported. “The Toon are desperate to hold on to one of their prized assets.”
The Magpies’ stance is strengthened by Hall’s contract, which runs through 2029, leaving Newcastle under no contractual pressure to negotiate a transfer now. The timing would also make a sale particularly difficult, as Newcastle is already desperately short at full-back, with Tino Livramento recovering from injury, and Jaissle acknowledged after Wednesday’s defeat to Everton that further defensive reinforcements are required.
The question now is whether Newcastle’s refusal to sell survives if Hall continues pushing for the move and Manchester United follows its initial enquiry with the substantial bid it has reportedly been preparing.
