A day after announcing they were going to option Colt Emerson down to Triple-A Tacoma, the Mariners announced Friday they are redirecting the shortstop to the 10-day injured list instead.

Emerson, who has a .190 batting average in his first season with the Mariners, is listed as having left wrist tendon inflammation, according to a Mariners press release.

With Emerson out, the Mariners have selected infielder Brock Rodden from the Tacoma Rainers to take a spot on the 40-man roster, which is now sitting at 39 players.

Rodden has a .262 batting average, as well as 54 runs, 19 home runs, and 65 RBI this season. He has played 92 games with the Rainiers this season, with reps at shortstop, third base, second base, left field, and center field.

Rodden will make his MLB debut at shortstop today, Aug. 14, as the Mariners face the Astros in the first game of a crucial series.

The game kicks off tonight at 5:10 p.m. PDT in Houston.
