Gyokeres linked to Barcelona as Lewandowski, Torres depart—but Arsenal say no approach has been made

Barcelona have not made direct contact with Arsenal to discuss a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, despite reports.

Gyokeres has been named as a potential option for Barcelona before the deadline as the Spanish champions look to sign a striker. The Catalans are seeking replacements for Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, who have departed for Chicago Fire and Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona have been frustrated in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, despite the Argentine'sdesire for a move to the Camp Nou. Atletico have turned down multiple offers for Alvarez and are insistent that the 26-year-old is not for sale.

Spanish outletEl Chiringuito TV have claimed Gyokeres has been earmarked as an option. The Swedish striker's future at Arsenal is uncertain after a mixed debut campaign, despite Premier League title success.

The 28-year-old scored 21 goals in 56 games, but was overlooked for some high-profile fixtures.

Gyokeres started the Champions League final defeat to PSG on the bench and was also a substitute for Sunday's Community Shield win over Manchester City. Kai Havertz, who scored in both of those fixtures, has been preferred as first-choice forward.

Arsenal paid around £54m to sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer and are reportedly open to a sale if a suitable bid arrives.

“Arsenal have not received any kind of call” — Barcelona linked to Viktor Gyokeres but no direct contact yet

However,Fabrizio Romano has reported that there has been no 'direct contact' from Barcelona to discuss a deal at this stage.

"Is there a chance to see Viktor Gyokeres at Barcelona? What I can tell you, checking this news overnight, is that Arsenal have not received any kind of call or direct contact for Viktor Gyokeres," Romano said.

"At the moment, the information is that Barcelona have not reached out to Arsenal."
