SPEARFISH, S.D. (KELO) — The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets posted a 3-8 record last year and are looking to improve on that mark in 2026.

The Yellow Jackets unfortunately will have their work cut out for them after losing their top passer, rusher and receiver, so the offense will have some questions.

The defense however, returns key starters including four in the secondary. Head Coach Josh Breske says his squad had a unique upper hand on other conference teams this summer.

"That's kind of our competitve advantage here where we do have a few schools in our league that don't have the luxury of being able to keep their students on campus. And our campus has been extremely flexible with us, opening dorms and having meal plans for the guys," Breske said.

BHSU makes the long trip from the West side of the state to the East side to open their season on August, 27th at 6:00 p.m. as they take on the University of Sioux Falls.
