Drug dealer, two others nabbed with gun in Brampton; arrest in North York synagogue break-in

Three men face charges after a loaded handgun was seized during a traffic stop in Brampton last week – the 112th firearm taken off Peel Region streets so far this year.

Peel Regional Police say officers investigated a vehicle in the area of Cedarbrook Rd. and Edgewater Ct. – near Bramalea Rd. And Sandalwood Pkwy. E. – around 2:20 a.m. last Monday.

“Officers observed three occupants in the vehicle and during the interaction, one of the occupant’s provided officers with a false name before fleeing the area on foot,” police alleged in a statement released Saturday.

“Officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded illegal handgun with a magazine containing ammunition,” police added.

Police said the man who fled was later located in another area and taken into custody. And investigators subsequently learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Alberta.

Navjot Singh, 29, of Innisfail, Alta., was arrested along with Harkomal Singh, 29, and Mohobbatbir Randhawa, 23, both of Brampton.

The accused are each charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm; knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm; occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm; possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm; and tampering with a serial number of a firearm.

Navjot Singh, who was wanted in Alberta following his conviction on charges in connection with a $4 million narcotics seizure in 2018, is additionally charged with obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with an undertaking.

MAN CHARGED IN NORTH YORK SYNAGOGUE BREAK-IN

A 35-year-old man is accused of breaking into a synagogue in North York last week and stealing religious items.

Toronto Police say the break-in occurred at a synagogue near Bathurst St. And Lawrence Ave. W. during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

“Once inside the (thief) stole several religious items and then fled the area,” police said in a statement released Friday night.

Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and executed a search warrant at a residence near Lawrence Ave. W. and Englemount Ave. – west of Bathurst St. – on Wednesday.

“During the execution of the search warrant, all of the religious items were recovered,” police claim.

Kayce Ranger was arrested.

The Toronto resident is charged with one count each of breaking-and-entering and failure to comply with a release order.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Thursday. The outcome of that hearing was not immediately known.
