Will this be the game that Patriots quarterback Drake Maye gets his first taste of preseason action?

There has been no confirmation on whether the Patriots' starters will get reps in the game. However, one would think the odds would be leaning toward no considering Maye and the top offensive unit completed two competitive joint practices with the Eagles this week.

So it could be a situation where the coaching staff feels like they've seen everything they need to see from their starters against Philly. That's how things ultimately played out last week with the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots had a competitive joint practice with the visiting Colts, and both teams opted to sit their starters for the preseason game.

That strategy gives the coaching staff a chance to see more from the players competing to make the final roster. If Maye did get to play, it's hard to envision him being on the field for more than just a series or two.

The Patriots could also hold off for the team's preseason finale with the Cleveland Browns next week, when there isn't a joint practice scheduled.
