And when it rained, it poured.
The Loons’ scuffling striker scored two goals — his first tallies in eight consecutive matches — and floundering MNUFC beat the Earthquakes 5-1 for the club’s first win in nine straight MLS games.
Yeboah had dropped out of the starting lineup in the last three MLS matches and was riding a goalless lull of more than 362 minutes across eight matches in all competitions since May 16.
MNUFC (7-7-7, 28 points) had lost to last-place Atlanta United in its 10-year anniversary match on Wednesday and the club’s Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad left for Austin FC this week.
The defense of San Jose (10-8-3, 33 points) continues to be an Achilles heel, with 13 goals allowed in its winless lull of five matches (2.6 per match).
Searching for answers amid its own skid, head coach Cameron Knowles started Marcus Caldeira and Yeboah together up top, with Pereyra as a central attacking midfielder.
The Loons conceded a penalty to Timo Werner after Jefferson Diaz’s hand ball in the third minute. But MNUFC scored due unanswered goals to cruise to victory.
Pereyra tied the game with a Ramona goal in the 10th minute and Caldeira scored his first MLS goal in the 65th. Yeboah’s goals were stacked together in the 40th and 44th minutes.
Mauricio Gonzalez added another in the 86th minute.
