Kevin Durant spoke frankly about the legendary status of his initials being his nickname, claiming it’s more iconic than Michael Jordan’s MJ or Allen Iverson’s AI.
NBA players are often given unique nicknames that fans refer to them as, but some simply choose to go by their initials.

Chris Paul became CP, Paul George became PG, and most memorably, Kevin Durant became KD. Durant would even bet that no player-initial combo comes close to him in terms of a nickname.

Durant spoke to Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts on his podcast, where he explained why he, as KD, is more memorable than Jordan as MJ or Iverson as AI, primarily because there is no other famous KD.
“But AI is in hard competition with A.I. I don’t have a competitor. Mine is just like standalone; MJ is also Michael Jackson. KG would be up there, but I edge him out because I am just… Better.” “
“It’s just me and Kashdoll. But that’s not competition; she knows that.”
This led to a hilarious back-and-forth where the pair try to figure out iconic three-letter names, with Durant saying ‘LBJ’ prompting Hurts to say GOAT, assuming it was about LeBron James, until KD revealed he was talking about former U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson.

While NBA fans have been joking about AI always meaning Allen Iverson, everyone knows that there is a far more pervasive technology that is now only referred to as AI, which is artificial intelligence.
Even past examples like Paul George and Chris Paul only work when you mention their jersey number as well, with them being referred to as PG13 or CP3.
In terms of a player with just a two-letter initial, it’s hard to argue with Durant’s point that his KD might be more iconic than MJ or AI, simply because KD has no similarly important KD to compete against.
