Congratulations to Tecumseh's Adley Staples on being voted Player of the Week for Aug. 17-22! Staples blasted out of the gates for her sophomore season, picking up 67 kills (28 against Forest Park), 48 digs (17 vs. Princeton), 51 assists (19 vs. Evansville Mater Dei and Princeton) seven aces and three blocks.
Here are last week's top performers.
Olivia Angelmyer, Scecina
The senior outside hitter is at 1,000 career kills on the nose after notching 17 on .433 hitting in a sweep of Decatur Central. Angelmeyer also served seven aces, dug out six shots and doled out an assist for the Crusaders.
Reece Blanton, Hamilton Heights
Three straight double-doubles for Blanton, who had 18 assists and 11 digs vs. Tipton, 29 and 12 vs. New Palestine and 35 and 13 vs. Heritage Christian. She also blocked a shot vs. New Pal, served three aces against both Tipton and Heritage Christian, and racked up seven kills.
Morgan Cates, Oak Hill
Cates did heavy damage in a three-set win over Wabash, hitting .514 as she racked up 21 kills, plus three aces, a couple blocks and four digs. Cates logged eight kills, an ace and eight digs vs. Logansport.
Hannah Clark, Yorktown
Clark cleared 1,000 career assists and helped the Tigers go 5-0 through a busy week, racking up 115 assists (32 vs. Delta and 17 vs. Roncalli), nine kills, five aces, two blocks and 18 digs.
Eliana Cresse, Fort Wayne Blackhawk
Cresse, a senior pin, picked up 52 kills in three matches, with her biggest outing coming in a 3-1 win over FW Canterbury: 26 kills on .305 hitting. To those terminations she added four aces, four blocks (all in a five-set win over Norwell), 34 digs (22 against Canterbury) and an assist.
Vizma Erkmanis, Mt. Vernon
The Marauders are on a roll since their 0-2 start (losses to Cathedral and Noblesville) and Erkmanis is a big reason why, totaling 101 kills through 27 sets. She strung together three matches with double-digit kills last week: 16 vs. Guerin Catholic, 17 vs. North Central and 11 vs. Pendleton Heights. To those kills she added five aces, six blocks and 34 digs (15 vs. Guerin and 10 vs. Pendleton).
Hadley Hasselbring, Providence
The junior pin posted 15 kills on .367 hitting through her first two matches of the week, including 15 on .367 hitting vs. DuPont Manual (KY). She also had 17 digs, then helped the Pioneers salvage a split at their Saturday tournament, beating Fishers then falling to Hamilton Southeastern.
Marley Hershberger, Lapel
Hershberger helped the Bulldogs continue their undefeated start, putting down 33 kills across three matches, with 16 against Cowan and 14 vs. Daleville. She also notched six aces (four vs. Daleville), 11 digs and a couple assists. Lapel has not lost a set this season.
Hayden Klimowicz, Crown Point
Klimowicz helped the Bulldogs go 3-3 against a loaded schedule last week, tallying 96 digs, including 33 in a 3-1 win over La Porte, and 14 aces (three vs. Yorktown; five vs. Merrillville). Crown Point secured wins over Merrillville, La Porte and Bellmont, and lost to McCutcheon, Westfield and Bellmont.
Reagan Lyons, Homestead
Lyons clocked 25 kills in her two matches with 15 in a four-set win over Warsaw and 10 in a sweep of Fort Wayne Wayne. She also clocked a couple aces, a couple blocks, 11 digs (all vs. Warsaw) and a couple assists.
Emily Overbeck, Carmel
The six-rotation senior outside hitter totaled 35 kills in three matches, including 18 on .255 hitting in a 3-1 win over Lebanon. Overbeck rounded out her weekly line with seven aces, 21 digs and an assist.
Quinn Reynolds, Bloomington South
Reynolds picked up 12 kills vs. Terre Haute North, then helped her team secure a five-set win over Northview with 21 terminations on .333 hitting. She clocked six aces and 15 digs (12 vs. Northview) to close out her line for the Panthers, who are 10-0 on the season.
Ella Stone, Roncalli
The Royals' lone senior, Stone surpassed Mackenzie Kruer on the program's all-time blocks list with 261.
Lyndi Whitenack, Winchester
The senior setter/right side put up big numbers running the Falcons' attack. She totaled 176 assists with three 30-assist efforts, 47 digs, nine blocks, 17 aces and seven kills. Whitenack has 280 assists and 24 aces through her first 28 sets.
