Leafs forward Max Domi shows his softer side, announces his engagement on Sunday

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi earns serious cash skating on ice, but he’s also not afraid to purchase serious ice, either.

The rugged forward is now engaged to longtime girlfriend and makeup artist Estelle Philips, the news making the rounds on social media on Sunday.
The son of ex-Maple Leafs fan favourite, Tie Domi, the 31-year-old published an update on his Instagram, making it crystal clear he was about to embark on the next stage of his life.
The caption was playful and innocuous enough, “I love you so much,” but there was no question about the meaning behind it as Estelle was in the photo, beaming ear-to-ear with a large diamond on the ring finger of her left hand.
Mitch Marner and Bo Horvat took to social media to congratulate their engagement.
The elder Domi was more emphatic with his words.
“I’ve never seen two people more ready for this,” Tie said on Instagram. “It feels like just yesterday you were my little boy, and now I get to watch you build a life and future with the woman you love. I couldn’t be more proud of the man you’ve become and the love you two have shared and grown over all these years.”
She said ‘yes’
Assuming she said “yes,” the personal news overrides what has been a tough off-season professionally for the Winnipeg-born Domi.
Domi had back surgery at the end of the season, but complications arose from the procedure, with the Leafs posting an update on social media on May 25.
Domi “will be out indefinitely,” the Leafs said. “He will continue working with the club’s medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp.”
The club acknowledged that Domi played through an issue during the 2025-26 regular season, resulting in the operation. He played 80 games last season.
He had 12 goals and 24 assists and led the team with 95 penalty minutes. Domi also had a career-worst mark of minus-29, the second-lowest on the team after Matthew Knies’ minus-30.
Toronto Sun columnist Steve Simmons hinted that Domi could not walk days after the surgery, which created “significant alarm.”
Domi is entering the third season of his four-year deal with Toronto (carrying an AAV of $3.75 million).
Whatever the issue was with his back, Domi seems to have moved beyond it; he was up and at ‘em, hosting his inaugural Max Domi Golf Classic at Magna Golf Club in Aurora on July 27.
Training camp opens next month. The first pre-season game for the Leafs is a split-squad matchup against the Canadiens on Sept. 19.
