Seminoles MBB Schedule Highlighted By SEC Showdowns

Autumn is fast arriving, and not only does that mean the football season is underway but the men’s basketball season is not too far away.
Florida State’s 14-game non-conference schedule was recently announced, and the slate is highlighted by three SEC showdowns and a neutral site matchup against a Big 12 contemporary.

The Seminoles start the season against Florida A&M on Nov. 2 in Tampa, as part of the Orion180 Tip-Off Classic. The Rattlers are coached by Charlie Ward, who won the 1993 Heisman Trophy as Florida State's quarterback and played 11 years in the NBA. Florida A&M finished 15-16 last season but were solid in the SWAC, posting a 11-7 conference record.
The Seminoles tip off their six-game home stretch against the Sun Belt champion Troy Trojans on Nov. 6. The Trojans are coming off a 22-12 season and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The true highlight of the non-conference home slate is their annual rivalry against Florida on Nov. 10. The Gators are two years removed from winning the national championship and remain the class of the SEC. The Gators were led by Thomas Haugh, a 6-9 senior forward who averaged 17.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
The Seminoles welcome former media personality Doug Gottlieb and Green Bay on Nov. 20. The Phoenix are coming off an 18-15 season where they were among the best teams in the Horizon League.
Other home November matchups include Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 13), Ball State (Nov. 17), and UNC Asheville (Nov. 24).
The Seminoles will travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee Dec. 1, in the fourth annual SEC/ACC Challenge. Led by NBA rookies Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Nate Ament, the Volunteers finished the previous season fourth in the SEC with a 25-12 record.
After hosting Dayton on Dec. 5, Florida State faces Texas A&M on Dec. 12, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The Aggies had a similar season to Tennessee and return guard Marcus Hill, who averaged 10.3 points per game last season.
The Seminoles will host Jacksonville on Dec. 16 and then travel to Jacksonville to take on Houston on Dec. 20. Led by NBA rookies Kingston Flemings and Emanuel Sharp, the Cougars were one of the best teams in the country throughout last season and were second to Arizona for the top spot in the Big 12 Conference.
The Seminoles will close out their non-conference schedule at home against Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 22. The ACC slate of the schedule has yet to be announced.
