Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are two of the WNBA stars driving a massive surge in interest, routinely generating historic TV ratings and sold-out arenas.
That so-called rivalry has turned into pure synergy during Team USA’s 94-61 World Cup rout over China, where Clark racked up a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists, while Bueckers dropped 14 points of her own.
Ahead of tip-off, the two swapped heavy praise. Bueckers pointed out how Clark’s offensive gravity opens up effortless scoring cuts for her teammates, while Clark praised Bueckers’ floor vision, emphasizing how natural their backcourt chemistry feels on the international stage.
Paige Bueckers gives Caitlin Clark her flowers after win over China
Talking to the press after the win over China, Paige Bueckers was very complimentary about her teammate Caitlin Clark, who broke the record for the most assists on FIBA World Cup debut by a US player.
She said: “Oh, good. Like I talked about yesterday, it’s just organic. We know how to play well off of each other. We are both smart basketball players that know how to play. She just makes the game easy. Being able to cut, play off the ball, get to my spots. She draws so much defensive attention, so a lot of the defense is worried about her, so her teammates get open, and she has great vision as well.”
Many fans have been calling for Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers to start together after their performances against China, but Kara Lawson seems to enjoy relying on experience.
However, with the Czech Republic up next, it may give Team USA the opportunity to rotate.
