CHRISTIAN DERBYSHIRE MAKES HIS ORLANDO PIRATES DEBUT

Derbyshire was on Sunday named in the Pirates starting line-up against La Cure Waves in the CAF Champions League.

Pirates are in Mauritius for the first leg of the competition’s first round, and Derbyshire is part of the team.

The left-footed player plays as a centre-back, and having impressed in DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team over the years, Ouaddou has now given him the chance in the senior team.

Derbyshire, who also captained the Pirates DDC team at some point, won the championship with his teammates last season.

He joins a growing list of Pirates youngsters who are with the senior team after doing extremely well in the DDC league.

The 19-year-old was signed from Paranoma, and upon his promotion to the senior team, Ouaddou took him with the rest of the team to Spain for pre-season.

Derbyshire was given a taste of first team football when Pirates played against Spanish outfit Córdoba in Marbella.
