Rubens Barrichello reunites with Ferrari F2002 in Michael Schumacher’s honour

Rubens Barrichello took his and Michael Schumacher’s F2002 out for a drive as part of Ferrari’s celebrating the German at the Formula 1 2026 Italian Grand Prix.
In celebration of Schumacher, his former teammate Barrichello got to drive the F2002 machinery again at Monza on Saturday afternoon after exhilarating F1 Italian GP qualifying, which saw a surprise pole from Alpine’s Pierre Gasly – an underdog in the circumstances.

Before Sebastian Vettel’s chance on Sunday pre-race, Barrichello got back in the car in which he won four races during the 2002 F1 season – including the Italian GP at Monza. The car saw 15 wins in the season, which sealed the constructors’ title for Ferrari and drivers’ for Schumacher.
Barrichello also part of history
Barrichello finished the season second to Schumacher with four wins and 10 podiums. Ferrari used sustainable fuel in the V8-powered car – prepared by Shell – as is the norm in current times. The F2002 is on display at Monza along with Schumacher’s first Ferrari F310 from 1996 season and his last 248 from 2006.
There is also a special livery that Ferrari is running in F1 Italian GP weekend in honour of Schumacher, with both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc sporting race suits with seven stars inscribed to denote the German’s seven F1 world championships.
Barrichello wears his son’s helmet for the run
The Brazilian wore the racing helmet of his son during the demonstration event. The youngster is currently racing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with AIX Racing. “Fernando, my son. Taking your helmet for a “ride” in the Ferrari at 350 km/h was yet another huge thrill. I love you,” Barrichello wrote.
Ferrari shared handful of videos from the special run undertaken by Barrichello on Saturday afternoon. Naturally, the V8 created lot of attention in the paddock and also among fans – a lot of them are new to the screaming engine noise.
