Fernando Alonso Drives Ayrton Senna’s Legendary F1 Cars Ahead of Spanish GP

Fernando Alonso went for a drive around the Catalunya-Barcelona circuit ahead of the Spanish GP at Madrid in his GT, DTM and F1 cars, which includes Ayrton Senna’s.
As the world readies for first F1 Spanish GP at Madrid’s Madring circuit, Aston Martin’s Alonso went for a drive session at Catalunya-Barcelona circuit in some of his owned race cars. He brought the big guns from GT cars to DTM and even some of the famous Formula 1 machineries.

The Adrian Newey-designed Aston Martin Valkyrie was one in action too along with some other GT machineries. The biggest attractions certainly were the F1 cars from his collection in his museum, mostly the cars driven by multiple world champion Senna.
Alonso took three Senna F1 cars for a ride in Barcelona
One of it was the Brazilian’s first-ever F1 car, the #19 Toleman TG183B-05 that was entered by Toleman Group Motorsport for few races in 1984 season. He followed it up with the famous McLaren-Honda MP4/4 from 1988 season, which saw him win his first drivers’ world championship.
He raced the #12 during the season but Alonso drove the car with #1 sticker. The last of Senna’s car that the Spaniard took for a spin was #2 Rothmans Williams Renault’s FW16. Sadly, it was the last F1 car that Senna drove, due to his unfortunate demise in 1994 San Marino GP.
A bit fast forward to the current times, Alonso also got his 2007 McLaren MP4-22, which saw him finish third in the F1 drivers’ championship despite tying on 109 points with teammate Lewis Hamilton. There were some historic cars in action too – although the full list of cars is unknown.
Alonso terms it special day at Barcelona driving his own collection
“A very special day at Circuit de Barcelona, enjoying some of my collection cars where they really belong: on the track,” wrote Alonso. “F1, Historic, GTs AND DTM. Top day. Because collecting is also preserving, enjoying and keeping that history alive. Thank you Circuit Catalunya-Barcelona for making it possible.”
With a day at Barcelona done, Alonso will head to Madrid for this weekend’s F1 Spanish GP with his future hanging in the balance. Despite his own say that he will decide his future by summer, it is unlikely that there is any announcement during the course of the weekend, with negotiations still ongoing about the finances.
