The Boston Celtics’ roster doesn’t feel set yet, even though the organization can keep what it has and add a player or two while making multiple roster decisions during training camp. If there’s one thing Brad Stevens has done well, it’s his ability to find players during training camp whom other teams might not necessarily want and go from there.
As for where the Celtics could add, the latest report from one insider suggests that if they add a player in the near future, it would likely be a backcourt guy who can handle the ball.
“An injury to Boston’s backcourt could make them a little thin in that spot, although White and Pritchard are guys that normally don’t get banged up throughout their career.
"Given Conley's age, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Boston try to bring in a ball handler in that spot to develop. Tatum, among other wings, can also handle the ball plenty so this is not necessarily an area of need for the Celtics,” Brian Robb wrote.
The Mike Conley situation is interesting because of the veteran’s age, but it’s also important to note that he’s still a really good player at this stage of his career. It’s not that Conley is going to blow anybody away, but he does exactly what’s needed on the offensive side of things, and there’s something to be said for that.
He can also be a big help to a young guy coming insomeone the Celtics can mold into the future guard they want.
