Adam Greeno had already been named Lee’s Summit Firefighter of the Year when former Chiefs players Keith Cash and Bill Maas gave him two tickets to Monday night’s season opener against the Broncos. He thought that was the extent of it.

Once he got to the game, Greeno was pulled into the Monday Night Countdown broadcast with Scott Van Pelt, Jason Kelce, Marcus Spears and Pat McAfee. The entire crew announced together that he was getting Golden Tickets to Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium in 2027. Greeno had no idea it was coming.

Jason Kelce and ESPN crew honor Adam Greeno with Super Bowl surprise

Greeno, a Lee’s Summit, Missouri, firefighter, was named Firefighter of the Year for his service. He first received tickets to the Chiefs’ season opener from former Kansas City players Keith Cash and Bill Mass.

“Scott Van Pelt welcomed Greeno to the program and announced to the viewers that he had won firefighter of the year,”HITC reported. “The first responder was not aware that he would be called to the show, and to make things even better, Greeno was informed that he would be getting Golden Tickets to the Super Bowl LXI, which will be played at the SoFi Stadium.”

Jason Kelce and the Monday Night Football crew delivered the news together. Greeno expected a game-day honor, but instead received tickets to Super Bowl LXI in 2027.

The moment carried extra meaning because the Chiefs’ opener came near the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Greeno’s recognition connected the broadcast with local first-responder service.

ESPN also announced plans to give more Golden Tickets during the NFL season. The network and ABC hold the broadcast rights for the game at SoFi Stadium.

The Chiefs opener already had plenty going on, with Patrick Mahomes returning from his torn ACL and LCL and Travis Kelce playing his first game as a married man. Greeno’s moment gave the broadcast something else entirely, a local first responder finding out in front of the whole country that his service was being recognized with a trip to the Super Bowl.

ESPN’s plan to continue the Golden Tickets program through the season means more moments like this are coming. Greeno’s story set the tone for what that can look like when the recognition is personal, specific and genuinely surprising.
