All the records Lionel Messi set and extended with latest Inter Miami trophy

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi continued to etch his name ever further into the history books of world football in the early hours of Thursday.

This came courtesy of his exploits on the club front, with Inter Miami.

Inter were back in action earlier today, welcoming Mexican outfit Cruz Azul to the Nu Stadium for the finale of the Campeones Cup.

When all was said and done, the evening’s hosts emerged on the right side of a 2-0 result, to lift the trophy. And Messi, predictably, proved himself the star of the show.

After opening the scoring in Miami midway through the first-half, the veteran attacker then laid on the assist for Inter to double their advantage through Casemiro ten minutes from time.

And in the process, Messi continued to add to his lengthy list of personal records… As revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 39-year-old managed all of the following on Thursday morning:

‘Lionel Messi maintains the record for most goals scored in finals with 36.’

‘Lionel Messi, the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 goals for his club in all competitions. 155 G/A in 114 games. 100 goals, 55 assists.’

‘Lionel Messi adds Campeones Cup to his trophy cabinet, 49th trophy of his career (more than any other player).’
