The Chargers released Elam on Wednesday after signing veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Elam, 25, is a former first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Bills drafted him out of Florida with the 23rd overall pick.
He is entering the final year of his four-year, $13 million rookie deal.
After three seasons with the Bills, Buffalo moved on from Elam, trading him to the Cowboys in March 2025 for late-round picks. The 25-year-old has since spent time with two other teams: the Titans and Chiefs.
Elam made four appearances with the Titans in 2025, recording four tackles, one pass deflection and two fumble recoveries. He also appeared in seven games for the Cowboys that season.
In April 2026, Elam signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs, but his time in Kansas City was short-lived.
Through four NFL seasons, Elam has recorded 114 tackles, four tackles for loss, eight passes defended, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 43 games, including 19 starts.
