Taylor Townsend undergoes emergency surgery days after US Open doubles title

American tennisplayer Taylor Townsend, who won the 2026 US Open women’s doubles titlewith Katerina Siniakovadays ago, has undergone emergency surgery.
With Siniakova, Townsend’s win at the 2026 US Open completed her career Grand Slam in women’s doubles.

Townsend was in the singles draw of the WTA Guadaljara Opentournament. She was set to play Marta Kostyuk on Wednesday when she withdrew from the event.
Townsend confirmed her health issue on social media.

“But, I’m looking forward to coming back here next year to see all of you, the greatest tennis fans. Viva Mexico!!!”
Thetennis season is far from over. A saving grace is that Townsend and Siniakova have already qualified for the WTA Finals. If Townsend needs a longer recovery time, they do not have to play the fall Asian swing to get into the event.
Townsend has been playing singles and rising in the singles rankings. That may have been a goal for fall.

Townsend said that she would provide more details later. It is unclear if she had the surgery in Guadalajara or came back to the United States to have the procedure done.
Hopefully Townsend is on the road to recovery and will return to a tennis court in the near future.
