Playing away from home, Union SG took control of the match early on, with Mofokeng opening the scoring in the 18th minute.

The former Orlando Pirates winger showed great composure after pouncing on a long ball before lifting his finish over the advancing Plzen goalkeeper to put his side ahead.

Mofokeng, affectionately known as the ‘President yama 2K’, had another opportunity to add to his tally but fired straight at the goalkeeper. He was denied again in the second half before being substituted in the 63rd minute.

Mofokeng shines in Europe

His performance drew plenty of praise from supporters on social media.

“Rele Mofokeng is a star, it’s not long before he goes to the top five European leagues,” wrote @Simon_Pela.

“One thing about Mofokeng is that he adapts then dominates. The people of Belgium and the rest of Europe are about to find out why he is the president,” posted @uNdu_Mk2.

“Mofokeng signed to a good team. That helps a lot. Well done to his management,” commented @umvelo_.

Mofokeng has now scored four goals in eight appearances for Union SG since making his move from Orlando Pirates in July.

His impressive start in Belgium has seen his confidence continue to grow, and the 20-year-old will now be looking to build on his form and push towards reaching double figures this season.

Union SG have also made an excellent start domestically, currently sitting at the top of the Belgian Pro League standings after winning the Belgian Super Cup.
