Duke returns home to Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday as the 2-0 Blue Devils face Stanford in their ACC opener.

Manny Diaz’s squad is led by running back Nate Sheppard, who leads the nation in all-purpose yards (434) and rushing yards (374) and has five touchdowns. Walker Eget found some rhythm at quarterback last week, throwing for three touchdowns.
The Cardinal are coming off a bye week after starting the season a week early with a win against Hawaii before getting routed by Miami, 45-6, in Week 1.
Here are our staff members’ predictions for the Duke-Stanford matchup.

Duke’s starting to get some national buzz after upsetting Illinois last week, but the Blue Devils must be careful not to overlook Stanford. The Cardinal didn’t show much of a pulse in its last outing versus Miami, but they still have some pieces that could scare Duke. That being said, the Blue Devil defense will shut down Stanford, and the offense will have its best game of the 2026 campaign.

It’s a battle between two teams that love to dominate the line of scrimmage, so expect a lot of big hits in the trenches. The difference will be Duke running back Nate Sheppard and the improved play of Walker Eget, who recovered after a dud of a debut against Tulane. Duke is a well-balanced team, whereas the Cardinal are still trying to find offense. Duke improves to 3-0.
