Austin-area high school football Week 4 scores: Vandegrift, Round Rock, Weiss face big tests
· Yahoo Sports
Week 4 of the 2026 Central Texas high school football season started with Thursday night's surprising 48-35 loss for Lake Travis - the No. 1-ranked team in the American-Statesman's Austin-area Class 6A power poll - to private school power San Antonio Cornerstone Christian, which is loaded with college prospects.
Of course, it didn't help that the Cavs (1-1-1) allowed a 200-yard rusher, threw two interceptions, committed another turnover on a kickoff and turned the ball over on downs five times.

(Mikala Compton/Austin American-Statesman)Cornerstone Christian (4-1) has even bigger challenges waiting on their schedule; the Warriors play national power Shreveport Evangel Christian in mid-October and they already have beaten Dallas Parish Episopal 42-16 and lost at IMG Academy in Florida 59-10, their lone loss of the season. Among their top players are two standout offensive tackles, including five-star Jai'Storm Knight, running back Jaylen McKanel, who has Power Four offers, a highly-rated defensive lineman named Ahzan Bacote and a highly-regarded defensive back named DiAvion Jackson.

Tonight's plan
There are more than 30 games being played around Central Texas on Friday, which is serving as the final week of non-district games before many area schools open with district schedules next week. The first wave of 7 p.m. games are about to kick off.
We're at three games tonight: Colby Gordon is at Dragon Stadium (and will be live blogging) for the Vandegrift vs. Round Rock game, Shaun Chornobroff - covering his very first Texas high school game for us after starting at the Statesman on Monday - is at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex for Rouse vs. Cedar Ridge (and he's live blogging out of that one, too), and Caleb Yum is covering Lockhart at Anderson, providing live coverage out of that one as well.
