Penn State moves up in updated US LBM Coaches Poll for Week 3

· Yahoo Sports

Penn State is moving up in the rankings once again as the Nittany Lions capitalize on another team's fall from the top-10. Penn State is ranked No. 14 in this week's updated US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released on Sunday afternoon following the results of Week 3.

Penn State is coming off a decisive 55-13 victory over Buffalo in Week 3. The Nittany Lions completed a 3-0 record in non-conference play with double-digit victories in each. But now the difficulty will kick up a few notches as Penn State and the majority of the rest of the Big Ten teams enter conference play for the remainder of the season. The blowout win as a 40-point favorite was not going to be enough on its own to move up the rankings, however.

Penn State's slight climb in the coaches poll was aided by Texas A&M falling 12 spots after losing at home to Kentucky. The Aggies dropped 12 spots from No. 8 in No. 20 in this week's coaches poll. LSU also fell out of this week's top-10 after a road loss to Ole Miss, but the Tigers only stumbled four spots from No. 7 to No. 11 after losing to the No. 6 Rebels (who moved up 3 spots).

Texas remains this week's No. 1 for a second straight week after receiving 46 first-place votes. No. 2 Georgia received 16 first-place votes. No. 3 Notre Dame received 2 first-place votes. Indiana, the Big Ten's highest-ranked team and defending national champion, received 9 first-place votes but remains No. 4 in this week's coaches poll. No. 5 Miami also received a first-place vote this week.

Other Big Ten teams in this week's US LBM Coaches poll, in addition to Penn State and Indiana, are No. 7 Ohio State, No. 12 USC, No. 16 Oregon, No. 17 Iowa, No. 18 Michigan, and No. 23 Washington. UCLA, Nebraska, and Northwestern were among those also receiving votes this week.
