Steelers expect Joey Porter Jr to play Week 3
· Yahoo Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without Joey Porter Jr for the second straight game to open the 2026 season. Porter spent the offseason and training camp hoping to get a contract extension. A deal didn’t get done, and Porter has been dealing with what the team classified as a back injury during the process. However, he could take the field in Week 3.

Per Adam Schefter, the Steelers are planning for Porter to play next week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning for Joey Porter Jr., who has missed the first two games of the season, to potentially return for their Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, sources told ESPN,” Schefter reports.
That said, as there has been with every step of the way, there is another potential turn to the story. Schefter adds that Porter is seeking a second opinion on his back injury.
“Porter’s back, according to a source, has ‘flared up when he’s tried to go full speed, and they haven’t been able to get it where it needs to be.‘ Porter has been considering getting a second opinion on his back,” Schefter notes.
As this seemingly never-ending saga continues, the Steelers will take the field at 1:00 EST to try to get to 2-0 on the year when they face the New England Patriots.
