AGAR: Hamas deserves plenty of blame among the 'Free Palestine' crowd

What about Hamas?
Yes, I’ve hard you yelling, “Free Palestine.” I’ve seen the text messages to my radio show about how Israel is committing genocide, Israel is an occupier and calling for proportional response.
When I was in court fighting the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), who sued me for slander when I accused them of terrorist sympathies (I won), an interesting thing happened.
A spokesperson for the union was testifying and speaking with pride about their anti-Israel resolutions, anti-Israel marches, pro-Palestinian marches and statements against Israel over the years.
After letting the spokesperson – a former head of the union – speak glowingly for a number of minutes on their record, my lawyer asked whether he could give one example, only one, of when over the years he or the union had made a public statement condemning Hamas by name. He could not do it.
Hamas rule has harmed Gaza
Why was that?
There have been hundreds of demonstrations in Toronto alone after the terrorist attacks on Israel in October 2023 and if the demonstrators have condemned Hamas, they have done it so little and so quietly those condemnations are seemingly nonexistent.
What about you?
Whatever your criticism of the Israeli government might be, can you drum up some concern, if not the appropriate horror, over the vicious, inhumane attacks perpetrated against innocent people with such glee that they were recorded and broadcast to the world with sickening pride?
Hamas showed pride in killing Jewish babies, pride in raping Jewish women and killing as many Jews of all ages as they could.
When the entertainer Macklemore shouted “Free Palestine” from the stage and ignited the firestorm that saw his removal from the Ed Sheeran tour, he was supported by the rest of the people on the tour .
Have any of them suggested that the elimination of Hamas might free Palestinians from the grinding life they have been subjected to under a terrorist organization that hides its murderers among Gaza’s hospitals, schools and general population?
Why not?

Disturbing questions to answer
In all the furious rhetoric I have seen on social media condemning Robert Kraft , the stadium owner who banned Macklemore, of Sheeran for not supporting his opening act and of the usual anti-Israel statements, Hamas goes unmentioned.
Perhaps when you condemn Israel, you think you are standing up for fairness, peace and justice.
No government is beyond criticism, after all, and many decent people, some of them Jews, have problems with Israel’s government. Perhaps those things truly matter to you and that is good. They should and do matter.
But put down the newspaper and ask yourself a quiet question.
“Why am I not just as angry about the people who terrorize and murder, and plan to go on murdering, just because they have a generational, visceral hatred of Jews? Why am I not speaking out about that with equal passion and frequency?”
Because if you cannot do so, if all your energy is expended saying you are just against the Israeli government, that you just want peace and safety for Palestinian moms and their children, but Hamas never enters the conversation, there could be a disturbing answer to that question.
Maybe in the back of your mind in a dark place you don’t want to acknowledge, you just don’t like the Jews.
